Jessica Goldschmidt, the designer behind Dossie-a (website has subtle music, so heads up), a special event stationery company, is passionate about creating one-of-a-kind invitations that reflect the personal story behind the invites. These two wedding invitation suites not only show that passion, but they also give us a peek at Jessica’s creative process and show how she used a peacock feather as inspiration for designs that are, stylistically, as different as apples and oranges.

Melanie + Jordan’s Enchanted Invitations

The only requests that Jessica received from Melanie, the bride, were to incorporate the wedding’s enchanted forest theme and to use a peacock feather’s jeweled tones in the color palette. Jordan, the groom, wanted the invitations to look like a 1960’s vintage concert poster and pulled inspiration from the Grateful Dead, a favorite band. The couple also wanted to pay homage to their dog, who had just passed away.

The resulting invitations are a wonderful combination of vibrant color and a 60’s vibe, with an enchanted tree illustration that features their dog peeking out from the side. Pretty groovy, huh?

Instead of using table numbers, the bride and groom opted to continue the Grateful Dead theme and name the tables after their 15 favorite songs, and in lieu of traditional favors, they asked guests to make a donation to a charitable organization of the couple’s choice. Jessica created a favor sign that sat beside a basket of charity bracelets and gave information about the organization to which the guests were donating, as well as contact info for the organization.

Nicole + Joseph’s Flapper Chic Invitations

Nicole, the bride, also wanted to use a peacock feather as inspiration, but this time in a more straightforward way than Melanie and Jordan had in their Grateful Dead groovy invitations. Nicole wanted a vintage look, and Jessica was inspired by theater playbills from the 1800’s and roaring 20’s flapper style to create this wedding invitation suite, which features actual feathers in a way that brings to mind the hairpieces and headbands that flapper women wore. I especially love how Jessica used the feather on the invitation, incorporating it in the area where the printed flourishes come together to look exactly like an ornate headband.
