Bookeyed Nelson + San Rafael by Crystal Kluge

If you’re a fontaholic, then you’re going to want to stick around because today will be filled with all sorts of fontly fun!

I invariably let out a squee of delight when Crystal Kluge (Tart Workshop) releases new fonts, and I don’t think that I’ll be able to resist adding these two new lovelies to my font collection.

First up is Bookeyed Nelson, cousin to the delightful Bookeyed Jack and the darling Bookeyed Suzanne. Nelson is an upstanding fellow whose handsome good looks and charm were hand drawn with pointed pen in walnut ink. He’s strong enough to stand on his own, but he doesn’t complain if he has to share the page with others. Nelson loves books & music, posters & stationery, and spending time with his lovely cousin, Suzanne.

And what have we here? It’s the flirty and sweet hand-lettered font, San Rafael (and don’t forget San Rafael Mission), a breezy duo inspired by clear skies, crisp air, and glimpses of the Golden Gate Bridge and the city on the bay experienced at Mission San Rafael Arcángel. These two lovely fonts are just the thing for labels, packaging, logotypes, book titles, invitations, and other stationery goodies.

Molly Jacques Calligraphy & Illustration

Molly Jacques Calligraphy & Lettering

I first became smitten with the work of calligraphy / lettering artist and illustrator, Molly Jacques, through her product lettering work with Sugar Paper, and I was absolutely delighted to hear from Molly recently about the many, many projects that she’s working on these days. Some of the projects are still top secret (can’t wait to hear more!) but, thankfully, there are plenty of projects that she can tell us about.

Molly Jacques Calligraphy Wedding Invitation

Molly’s calligraphy for the newest Sugar Paper wedding invitation suite was recently featured in the Spring 2012 Issue of Martha Stewart Weddings (above), and she continues to work with the ladies of Sugar Paper on wedding, product lettering, and illustration. In addition, she’s been collaborating on some fun projects with creatives, including The Wedding Party and Elevated Press, from her home state of Michigan.

Custom Envelope Calligraphy + Rubber Stamps

In addition, Molly also manages to run an online shop, where smaller quantities of custom calligraphed envelopes can be purchased by clients looking to have birthday, holiday, or celebratory cards addressed by a skillful hand. She also carries custom rubber stamps, which are perfect for brides with a do-it-yourself approach.

Check out more of Molly’s gorgeous lettering work below, and head over to her blog for even more eye candy, as well as fun info and freebies that you won’t be able to find anywhere else. Thanks, Molly, and we’ll look forward to seeing more of your wonderful work soon!

Fontly Five Favorites

I don’t share highlights from the Fontly Five nearly often enough here on the main site, so I’m changing things up a bit today and showcasing half a dozen fonts that I’ve been lusting after in recent weeks. Is it just me, or are there a lot of really awesome fonts making their debut these days?

Off Book : Type (Video)

Thanks so much to Missy for letting me know about this great video from the PBS Arts Off Book series. The 7 minute video features conversations about typography from a variety of creatives, including Jonathan Hoefler and Tobias Frere-Jones, Paula Scher, Eddie Opara, and Julia Vakser and Deroy Peraza, each coming at the topic from their own unique perspective. Though it’s a fairly short video, there’s lots of good stuff in there, and I just love their choice of the most beautiful font ever designed.

Love Your Letters Workshop Giveaway

Love Your Letters Workshop

Are you head over heels for all things hand-lettered? I know that I am! And I’m super excited that Gina Sekelsky, aka Lettergirl, is going to be offering “Love Your Letters”, a workshop for those of us who want to develop our own hand-lettering skills.

Gina’s gathered nearly 20 years of hand-lettering tips and tricks into this self-paced workshop, which is designed to help you love your own handwriting. Workshop packets start shipping on June 1, and Gina has offered one lucky Paper Crave reader a spot in the class. Sweet!

In order to enter the giveaway, please comment on this post and let us know what you would do with improved hand-lettering skills. Would you hand address envelopes instead of using labels? Incorporate your handwriting into whatever paper craft project you’re working on? Create a line of hand-lettered paper goodies for your shop?

The giveaway will run through Monday, May 30 at midnight eastern, and the winner will be announced on Tuesday, May 31. One entry per person, please. This giveaway is open to international entrants, too!
