Sherwin Williams’ Color Chips Campaign

McKinney Matthew Sporzynski Paint Chips

I don’t typically get excited about the ads on the back covers of magazines, but the Sherwin Williams ad shown above, featuring an ice cream sundae made completely of paint chips, almost made my head explode with its awesomeness when I spotted it recently on the back of one of my magazines. I immediately wanted to know who created this awesome piece of paint chip art, and after a bit of Googling I found out.

Sherwin Williams’ brilliant new Color Chips campaign was created by McKinney and features the work of “paper constructionist” Matthew Sporzynski, whose amazing talent can be seen in the many paper creations he’s made for Real Simple magazine — check out a gallery of his work for Real Simple and be amazed.

I’m also drooling over the two Color Chips television spots, created for the campaign by Buck. Amazing color and animation work.

Cameron Moll Colosseo Letterpress Prints

Colosseo Letterpress Art Print
Colosseo Letterpress Art Print

I spotted this breathtaking letterpress print via @feltandwire on Twitter, and my jaw was on the floor as soon as I saw it. Cameron Moll, who also created a jawdropping typographic rendition of the Salt Lake Temple, has created a representation of the Roman Coliseum that is beyond words. Colosseo was handcrafted character by character over the course of 250 hours (for the original 24″ x 16″ poster — shown above is the smaller letterpress print, which features a portion of the larger artwork). Characters from the Goudy Trajan and Bembo Pro typefaces form the Coliseum, and the poster and print were letterpressed by Bryce Knudson of Bjørn Press in Provo, Utah.

A detail from the original letterpress poster, which is also available for purchase:

Both the poster and the smaller 8″ x 10″ print are available in black, as well:

A poster of glyphs, based on the work of master Italian calligrapher M. Giovambattista Palatino and hand-traced by Cameron for use in Colosseo, is also available. If typophiles aren’t drooling yet, then I think this letterpress poster will do it:

Dan Judge Red Curtain Music Series Posters

I am absolutely loving Dan Judge’s Red Curtain Music Series posters — the illustrations, the colors, the typography, and the aged vintage look — sheer graphic design awesomeness. Each poster in the series is a two color screenprint, printed in a limited edition run of 50 each. I don’t yet see these beauties in Dan’s shop, but hopefully they’ll be there soon! In the meantime, you can check out more of Dan’s work in his Flickr photostream or at danjudge.com.

Bespoke Press Ampersand Letterpress Prints

I know that I just featured Bespoke Press’ letterpress wedding invitation work earlier this month, but I would be remiss if I didn’t share their newest print. Start drooling now, typophiles, because this letterpress ampersand print is a stunner. And the texture within the ampersand? Absolutely fantastic.

Katie Kirk Birthday Week Sale

Katie Kirk Birthday Sale
Katie Kirk Art Prints

Thanks to Maddy for giving me a heads up about the Birthday Week Sale going on right now at Katie Kirk’s Etsy shop, EightHourDay. Katie’s celebrating her birthday by giving us a fantastic deal on her art prints, which are only $10 this week until Friday at noon! That’s a pretty sweet deal and I, for one, wasn’t able to resist the urge to do a bit of shopping. Pick up a print (or three) for yourself, and grab a few to give as gifts, too. Happy Birthday, Katie!
