To be honest, I’ve never been a big fan of traditional purple. I don’t hate it, but I don’t love it, either. However, the trending crop of purples have me wanting to break out my pom-poms (yarn, of course) and do a little cheer. And I am not the cheerleader type. At all.
The new purples are a diverse bunch – with undertones of pink, magenta, and gray – that range from deep and dramatic plums on the dark side to dusty mauves and orchids on the light side. As for coordinating colors, you’ve got a lot to choose from here. Pair a deep and saturated plum with the other on trend darks like deep blue green or indigo for a look that’s fierce and dramatic, or pair a dusty mauve with a neutral like ivory, barely gray, or an on trend hue like blush pink for a look that’s soft and romantic.
Most of these purples also pair very well with the super popular metallics – ooh, deep plum plus copper would be stunning. And they play well together for tone-on-tone or ombre looks.
I hope that the eye candy below will inspire you to consider one or more luscious purple hues for your upcoming projects!
