Mobiles by Spin Designs

Spin Designs Paper Mobiles

Scherenschnitte (papercutting) is one of my latest obsessions, so these paper mobiles by Portland, Oregon based Spin Designs leaped out at me as soon as I saw them. I love the elegant, whimsical designs and the white accents featured on some of the mobiles. There’s just something about black and white.

Each design in Spin Designs’ Silhouette Collection is created from an original illustration and is laser cut from thick museum mat board. These would make fantastic housewarming gifts and would be a wonderful accent in any home.

PataPri Silkscreened Doors Posters

PataPri Silkscreen Poster

As they say, the best laid plans and all of that. I’m happy to report that we’re finally starting to get settled in the new apartment, though it took a bit longer than expected. It didn’t help that I came down with a terrible cold pretty much as soon as we finished moving our things into the new place. But I’m on the mend and am excited to be back to posting!

I thought that PataPri’s “door” posters would be a fitting first post after the moving break. A door can really make a home, and these hand silkscreened doors cover the spectrum, from traditional to french to screens. Posters are $30.00 each or $50.00 for a set of two.

While you’re there, you must check out PataPri’s patterned tea towels and cards. So fun and colorful!

On My Wishlist : Printing by Hand by Lena Corwin

Printing by Hand

Mr. Crave and I will be moving to a new apartment next week, and I’m beyond excited to be going from our current abode, which features a mish-mosh of mismatched carpeting, wall coverings, and fixtures from the mid-70’s — this is not the kind of vintage that translates well to the present day — to a modern place where everything is absolutely neutral and just waiting to be given some personality.

I’m just itching to start some home projects and crafts that will make the new place our own, and Lena Corwin’s new book, Printing by Hand, is at the top of my wishlist of items sure to get the ideas flowing. I’ve been a fan of Lena’s since I first saw her work, and this book looks like it will be fabulous, with projects ranging from custom stamped stationery and pouches to stenciled furniture and screen printed linens and fabric. I can’t imagine that it will be anything less than a wonderful inspiration.

I’m always jazzed to see collaborations between wonderful independent artisans, and I’m absolutely taken with these letterpress “dolls” created by Thomas Printers in collaboration with illustrator Denise Simon. I think that they would make wonderful gift tags, too, or you could simply frame them for a new twist on an art print. $4.00 each from Thomas Printers.

A Brief Interlude

I’ll be leaving today for an unplanned trip out of town and will be gone for the rest of this week and the entirety of next week. But I’ll be posting again starting the 21st.

While I’m gone, I won’t have access to email, but I’ll start responding to those emails that I’ve received in the past day or two and those I’ll receive while I’m gone starting on the 21st.

Apologies in advance for the absence of paper craves in the next week and a half. Thanks for understanding!
