Planet Platonic Papercut Art

I’m completely in awe over the amazing papercut artwork of Mayuko Fujino, aka Planet Platonic. Every piece is created by hand with an X-acto knife, washi (Japanese handmade paper), and pages from magazines, and I love the organic shapes and wonderful color found in these papercuts. Mayuko’s Flickr stream is a feast for the eyes, and a selection of papercut works are available through the Planet Platonic Etsy shop.

Dutch Door State Bird Letterpress Prints

I always enjoy seeing thematic collections created by artists and designers, and these limited edition state bird letterpress prints by Dutch Door Press are so very pretty. I love the use of color and how the state flowers are used both as design elements and as perches for the birds. Right now, it looks as if there are just five states available — Illinois, California, Texas, Connecticut, and Massachusetts — but hopefully we’ll be seeing more soon. – via designvagabond

Neither Snow Calligraphy

I haven’t been able to stop gawking at the Neither Snow site since I first spotted Mara Zepeda’s absolutely gorgeous calligraphy work the other day on Oh Joy! I especially love the pieces where the lettering is allowed to fall just short of breaking the confines of the envelope — such a great energy in this style. And white lettering on a dark colored envelope? Love!

Famille Summerbelle Paper Cut Maps

Famille Summerbelle Paper Cut Map

I had to pick my jaw up off the ground after I spotted Famille Summerbelle’s amazing paper cut map of New York City over on Design*Sponge the other day. Talk about amazing work! I love how the map features people having fun and going about their daily business and fluffy clouds here and there, in addition to buildings and other landmarks. Prints of this original paper cut are now available at Famille Summerbelle, along with prints of London and Paris paper cut maps (below):

Jared Andrew Schorr Paper Cut Art

Jared Andrew Schorr

I was instantly taken with the work of Jared Andrew Schorr, aka Super Cool Spy Club, as soon as I spotted one of his paper cuts the other day on Share Some Candy. His paper creations are super fun and colorful and feature food and inanimate objects with faces, something that I can’t seem to resist. Oh, and there are plenty of animals with faces, too, but they’re supposed to have faces. You can see more of Jared’s work on his site and via his Flickr, and you can purchase select paper cuts at the Super Cool Spy Club Etsy shop.
