Fern Eyes Papercut

Fern Eyes Papercut

I am continually amazed and inspired by Elsa Mora’s (aka, Elsita’s) papercut work, and one of her latest pieces, Fern Eyes, has my jaw on the floor. This incredible papercut was entirely handcut with an X-acto knife, which makes the piece even more amazing, and I love that Elsa used rich, scarlet red and moss green papers, which bring additional depth and vibrance to the piece.

Les Charlatans by Darling Clementine

Darling Clementine has done it again! Their new Les Charlatans collection, created for 1973, is completely awesome and so much fun. The sixteen cards features a collection of debonairly mischievous and utterly charming characters that would be right at home in an Hercule Poirot mystery. See all of the fun characters from the collection, and collect some for yourself, at 1973.

Letterpress Tattoo Posters

Tattoo Letterpress Posters

Check out these absolutely amazing letterpress posters and postcards, printed by The Mandate Press with illustration by Dan Christofferson. The posters were created for an event for the Salt Lake City chapter of the AIGA, “Full Bleed, The Design and Tattoo Experience”, which showcased the artwork and design of local tattoo artists. The posters and postcards feature awesome illustrations that cleverly combine traditional tattoo imagery with design jargon, and I so wish that these were for sale because I’d buy one in a heartbeat!

Update: Thanks to Jim from AIGA Salt Lake City for giving a heads up that the posters are now for sale over at the Felt & Wire shop. Yay!

The Journal of a Georgian Gentleman

The Journal of a Georgian Gentleman by Mike Rendell is a new book that presents the life and times of Richard Hall, an 18th century gentleman and the great-great-great-great grandfather of Rendell, in a way that’s truly unique. The book blends historical record, in the form of journal entries written by Richard Hall, with paper craft, in the form of paper cut works made by Richard and his family. Featured throughout are images of many of the original 18th century paper cut works, which depict pictorial scenes and imagery from life in 18th century England.

This book is sure to be a treat for paper cut enthusiasts who also happen to be history buffs, and you can pick up a copy at Amazon UK or The Book Depository.

Details of some of the ornate paper cuts featured in the book, which are in amazing condition given that they’re over 250 years old:

On My Wishlist : Uppercase Magazine, Issue #8

Uppercase Magazine Issue 8

I’ve been eagerly anticipating the release of Issue 8 of UPPERCASE Magazine, and now it’s out! Paper lovers, including myself, will find it hard to resist the pull of the new issue, which focuses on the art of letterpress.

Each copy of the magazine includes a random piece of letterpress loveliness from The UPPERCASE Letterpress Sampler, a collection of donated pieces from over four dozen letterpress printers, as well as a random sample of a vintage matchbox label. Pretty cool, huh? You can pick up your copy of UPPERCASE #8 in their shop, and here’s a peek at some of the pieces that are a part of the sampler (view the entire letterpress sampler gallery, and the gallery of vintage matchbox labels, too).
