I absolutely love this idea for an alternative to the traditional ribbon or bow gift topper. Tracy, one of the new summer interns at The Crafts Dept. over at Martha Stewart Living, shares a DIY for this pop-up message “ribbon”, made from cut strips of paper. What a fantastic way to add a personal, handmade touch to any gift.

The toppers are cut by hand. Pretty ambitious, I know.
Something like this would be reserved for REALLY special gifts, but it’s such a cool idea.

naomi – Unfortunately, the original craft tutorial doesn’t seem to be available any longer. I looked around the Martha Stewart site but was unable to find it. Bummer.
If I recall correctly, these toppers were actually hand cut with an x-acto knife after the letters were traced on strips of paper.
