I recently discovered the work of Australian artist and illustrator, Madeleine Stamer, and it was love at first sight. There’s an alluring mystery to her work, which is influenced by traditional folk art, particularly Mexican folk art. She also counts Danish artist Bjorn Wiinblad as a creative influence. I’m completely taken with her bold, surreal illustrations in black and white, though I have to say that the pops of pinks and reds in Wake Up Sleepy (below) make it one of my favorites:
