Fortyfive Design

I am completely digging the vibrant, modern paper goodies from New Zealand’s Fortyfive Design. This fabulous female design trio get their creativity on in a studio that overlooks the beautiful Wellington Harbour and, while the work that they do is mostly commercial, their first love is self-directed greeting card and art print projects, which allow them to follow their fancies and experiment with aesthetic and print possibilities. Fortyfive’s paper goods collection has grown to over 20 greeting cards and 10 art prints that can be found in shops across New Zealand or in their online shop (they ship internationally, too!).

Each member of the Fortyfive trio brings her own flavor to the mix, making the collection diverse and playful, with screen printed and digital printed designs that showcase great typography, hand-lettering, and eye-catching illustration. Here’s a peek at what you’ll find in the Fortyfive shop:

Titanic Letterpress Print

The 100th anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic was yesterday and, in honor of the occasion, Starshaped Press has created this amazing broadside, the first in a series of self-promotional pieces that showcase the beauty of letterpress printing with antique metal and wood type.

The piece was created to look like an advertisement for the Titanic, but with 100 years of hindsight – so, a touch of humor here and there – and features turn of the century type from Starshaped Press’ incredible collection. Most of the type used to print this letterpress piece is from the late 19th century through 1912, the year the ship sank. And the reverse features an offset printed photograph of the forme so we can see how the piece was built.

This is just the first in a series – 3 additional pieces will be released this year – and I am very much looking forward to seeing what’s next.

New Letterpress Prints by Tag Team Tompkins

It’s a happy day, indeed, because one of my favorite creative duos, Tag Team Tompkins, has six brand new letterpress prints! Their unique blend of papercutting, hand-lettering/calligraphy, and letterpress makes me a happy little paper fanatic, and the quotes that they incorporate into their work – these from Samuel Taylor Coleridge, Emily Dickinson, William Shakespeare, Oscar Wilde, Eduardo Galeano, and a Spanish proverb – are so rich and uplifting.

The new collection includes four 5×7 and two 8×10 prints, letterpressed onto luxe Crane Lettra stock by Bob Atkins of Skylab Letterpress.

55 Hi’s Lock & Key Pair Prints

I always look forward to seeing what’s new over at 55 Hi’s, and these lock and key prints are absolutely awesome! The 2 color, screenprinted pair, printed on Mr. French Speckletone 100# cover stock, is available in 5×5 and 12×12 sizes.

Lab Partners New Site + California Gold

Lab Partners just launched a new website, and it looks a-mazing! I’ve been swooning around the site for the past few days, and there’s much, much eye candy for illustration lovers (no surprise for those already familiar with LP’s impressive body of work), as well as a new shop that includes the California Gold art print series, which I’ve been lusting after since I first spotted the illustrations a little while back.
