Happy Graduation Cards

I’ve been celebrating super cool and kick butt dads over the past couple of weeks, and now it’s time to focus on the grad side of the dads & grads equation with this fun group of cards that give a big “woot, woot” to all of the gals and guys who will be finishing up their school days soon … unless they’re becoming teachers. In that case, they’ll still have school days, but it won’t be exactly the same.

Letterpress Birthday Cards by Huckleberry Letterpress Co.

If you’re looking for letterpress birthday cards that are funny, boozy, and sometimes (literally) very cheeky, then you’ve gotta check out the birthday cards from Huckleberry Letterpress Co., which are sure to bring a smile to any birthday gal or guy. I mean, the Grim Reaper may be hot on their heels, but at least he’s giving them a nice toast before he does his thing, right?!

Spring Cleaning Paper Illustration by Zim & Zou

Zim & Zou continually blow my mind with their incredible paper illustration and sculpture work, and these cover and spot paper illustrations that they created for the Washington Post Local Living Magazine are simply wow. It’s so easy (and fun!) to get lost in all of the little details, which include everything from the bristles on a dust broom to “dust” covered letters to the little holes in a cleaning sponge.

Owen Gildersleeve Paper Illustration & Sculpture

My paper lovin’ heart skipped a beat when the incredible work of London-based designer, papercraft illustrator, and set maker, Owen Gildersleeve, popped up in my inbox recently. Gildersleeve’s illustrations often “play with light and shadow, frequently combining multiple layered paper-cuts with graphical forms and hand-rendered typography”, resulting in pieces with wonderful dimension and touches of playfulness that draw the viewer in immediately.

Gildersleeve’s clients include Google, Kiehl’s, Scientific American, and The Washington Post, and he is also the author of Paper Cut: An Exploration Into the Contemporary World of Papercraft Art and Illustration, which features the work of some of the world’s top papercraft illustrators, including many of my personal favorites, such as Yulia Brodskaya, Helen Musselwhite, Jeff Nishinaka, and Zim & Zou. Yeah, you know this book is at the top of my wishlist!
