The Beauty of Letterpress, 11th Edition

"Old School Meets New School" Letterpress Print | Designed by Von Glitschka and Printed by Genghis Kern

As a longtime fan of Von Glitschka’s work, I’m excited to see that he, along with Denver-based letterpress printer Genghis Kern, has collaborated with Neenah Paper for Edition 11 of The Beauty of Letterpress series. His print, “Old School Meets New School”, brings together two contrasting creative methods to complement each other. “Old School” represents letterpress, while “New School” refers to working with digital methods.

As Glitschka says, “This creative yin-yang balances the old and new methods — digital allows us to create things with greater ease, while analog printing like letterpress allows us to reproduce it with the aesthetic that only antiquated methods can produce.”

This fun and funky letterpress print is available for just $5, and all proceeds from the purchase price help support The Hamilton Wood Type and Printing Museum, the only museum dedicated to the preservation, study, production, and printing of wood type.

Here are some photos of the creative process behind this very cool project:

Kids’ Age Birthday Cards by Ruka-Ruka

Kids' Age Birthday Cards by Ruka-Ruka

UK based design and print studio, Ruka-Ruka, got its start in 2009, when owner Sinéad Gray began making art prints to decorate her new daughter’s room while on maternity leave from her design agency job. Over the past six years, the small business has grown from its roots in personalized art and has introduced a range of greeting cards that are carried by the Conran Shop, Paperchase, and a handful of independent shops.

Ruka-Ruka recently launched their new summer line, and my favorites from the collection are these bright and bold kids’ age birthday cards, which feature eye-catching color and pattern, as well as overprint and off register details that give the cards a cool, vintage look. You can check out more from the Ruka-Ruka card collection, plus their art print collections, right here.
