Fortyfive Design

Fortyfive Design

I am completely digging the vibrant, modern paper goodies from New Zealand’s Fortyfive Design. This fabulous female design trio get their creativity on in a studio that overlooks the beautiful Wellington Harbour and, while the work that they do is mostly commercial, their first love is self-directed greeting card and art print projects, which allow them to follow their fancies and experiment with aesthetic and print possibilities. Fortyfive’s paper goods collection has grown to over 20 greeting cards and 10 art prints that can be found in shops across New Zealand or in their online shop (they ship internationally, too!).

Each member of the Fortyfive trio brings her own flavor to the mix, making the collection diverse and playful, with screen printed and digital printed designs that showcase great typography, hand-lettering, and eye-catching illustration. Here’s a peek at what you’ll find in the Fortyfive shop:

2012 Calendar Designs, Part 1

Well, my fellow paper lovers, it’s that time of year again: calendar season! As my filled-to-the-brim calendar bookmarks folder will attest, I’m completely blown away by all of the gorgeous designs in store for the coming year. So, without further ado, let’s get started on the 2012 calendar design goodness. Psst, there’s a second round up coming on the heels of this one, so stay tuned for more!

Oddball Press has some of the most fun letterpress calendar designs around, and the latest in their Natural Disaster calendar series is entitled “Meteor Strike”. Everything but the kitchen sink is being thrown at those Meteor Dinosaurs, but old-timey fireman dude, I don’t know how effective your hose is going to be.

Eep! Darling Clementine’s illustrated 2012 calendar, filled with sweet woodland creatures, is, well, absolutely darling.

Typophiles and font lovers, check out Two Trick Pony’s awesome 2012 “Year of Type” calendar. Each month features a typestyle from one of twelve classifications, and the calendar is screenprinted in red and white ink onto chipboard. What a great color combo!

Pistachio Press’ 2012 “Cross Stitch” letterpress calendar, featuring designs by Aesthetic Outburst, is perfect for the needlework or pattern lover in your life. And each month can be trimmed to create a 4×6 inch print, so it’s a calendar and a year of pretty, pretty art prints, too.

Such sweet illustrations in Stephanie Fizer’s “Animal Portraits” mini calendar, printed on super sturdy 110lb. satin finish paper stock. Clip off the dates after the month is over to create cute, little art prints.

The 2012 Aqua letterpress calendar by Yasuko Nakamura and Ken Schrag features twelve lovely illustrations of our favorite sea creatures, and the date portion of each month is perforated for easy removal, after which you can either frame the prints or use them as postcards.

Naomi Shiek’s hand drawn and hand cut 2012 papercut calendar is absolutely stunning. The calendar features three separate, papercut layers, with four months to each layer.

I always look forward to Linda & Harriett’s lovely, patterned letterpress calendars, and this year’s is a stunner. Such wonderful colors and design!

Typography + wood veneer = the wonderful 2012 “A Year in Caps” calendar by Heather Lins. It’s so much fun to see how Heather has interpreted each month in type.

Check out the new Southwest card collection from Two Arms, which features six different card designs inspired by the American Southwest. The hand screen printed designs include a desert eagle, a frosty mug of beer, a desert scene, and a bony cactus in a rusty red clay and minty teal palette.
