On My Wishlist : Paper Cutting : Contemporary Artists, Timeless Craft

Paper Cutting : Contemporary Artists, Timeless Craft

For the past couple of weeks, I’ve been seeing sneak peeks from what looks to be an incredible new book about contemporary paper artists. Paper Cutting : Contemporary Artists, Timeless Craft features work from so many amazing creatives, including Elsa Mora, who designed the gorgeous paper cut cover, and Rob Ryan, who also provides the preface for the book.

Also featured are a number of my personal favorites, including Yulia Brodskaya, Patricia Zapata, Su Blackwell, Matthew Sporzynski, Cindy Ferguson, Helen Musselwhite, and Emma van Leest, as well as  many artists whose work I’m excited to learn more about.

The book is available for pre-order now through Amazon.com, and it looks like it will start shipping in mid-April, and you can find some great sneak peeks at Elsa Mora and Patricia Zapata’s sites. I don’t know about you, but I can’t wait to get my hands on this book so I can pore over all of the amazing work that’s certain to be found within its pages!

Swissmiss Alpenglow Paper Craft Project

Swissmiss Alpenglow

Check out this fantastic paper cutting project from Swissmiss. The theme is “alpenglow”, which is a “reddish glow seen near sunset or sunrise on the summits of mountains,” and Swissmiss provides the templates and a swiss yodel mp3 (yes, really!) for your downloading pleasure. Whip out those Xacto knives (be safe about it), rulers, cutting mats, and tealights and create an alpenglow scene of your very own!

Paper Cut Art by Helen Musselwhite

Helen Musselwhite

I was introduced to the beautiful paper cut work of Helen Musselwhite through Pikaland’s post last week, and I’m again amazed at what can be done with paper and a cutting knife… and copious amounts of creativity, of course.

From holiday spirit evoking works like The King of Christmas (shown above) to intricate white on white and colorful layered creations (below), the UK based paper artist’s work is a feast for the eyes.
